Vizio is based in Irvine, California. The company was founded in 2002 and it’s original name was V Inc.
The company is known for producing high quality HDTVs at an affordable price. Through effective distribution strategies with major retailers such as Walmart, CompUSA, Tiger Direct and Amazon, they were able to effectively penetrate the market of middle class and bargain hunting shoppers. As of August 22, 2007, Vizio became the largest LCD TV seller in North America.
In early 2009, they made an announcement that they would stop production of Plasma TVs and would instead focus their efforts on more popular LCDs and next generation LED HDTVs. They have also begun branching out into areas such as computer monitors, HDTV accessories, and Blu-Ray players.
